 Class Dojo

Keep updated with what we are learning in Year 1 on our Class Dojo page!

Phonics

Children have a phonics lesson every day where they learn new sounds, read words, spell words and practise reading.

Year 1 is an important year for phonics, as children will have their Phonics Screening Check in June where they will showcase their phonics skills. Here are some links to help your child with their phonics at home:

 Maths

Throughout the year, children will do lots of counting, reading and writing numbers in numerals and words and using mathematical symbols such as + - and = (plus much more!) Take a look at our KS1 maths document to keep updated with what your child will be learning:

Children can also access Numbots at home to practise their maths skills. If your child needs their log in details, then please ask Miss Sharpe.

English

In our English lessons, we listen to stories, sequence stories, role play stories, label pictures and write sentences. We try our best to remember how to write a sentence using our sentence reminders:

Capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, use phonics and read it to make sure it makes sense.

 Reading

Children read everyday in their phonics lessons, please do try your best to listen to your child read at home. Phonics books go out every Monday and need returning every Friday

PE

Our PE lessons are on Wednesdays. Please send your child with a PE kit (white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps/trainers). PE kit can be left in school and taken home at the end of each half term for washing.

Forest School

Our Forest school sessions are on Tuesdays. Please send your child with forest school kit (trousers, t-shirt, hoodie/jumper, coat and wellies), as the children can get very messy when having lots of fun exploring our forest school areas!
