Curriculum
“Educating is an act of love; it is like giving life.” Pope Francis
At St. Malachy’s we have designed our curriculum with children’s learning at the centre with the aim of ensuring that all pupils make the very best progress from their own starting points. We recognise that a curriculum has to be broad, balanced and offer pupils opportunities to grow as individuals as well as learners.
Our Curriculum is underpinned by our experiences, development and acts of the faith, so that our children are equipped with the skills, qualities, resilience and attributes to succeed as global citizens.
We aim to ensure that pupils enjoy learning and feel prepared for life after school. We intend to offer our children new and exciting experiences that maximise a child’s sense of curiosity, awe and wonder. These experiences are designed to build resilience, confidence and self-esteem both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. We recognise that children should be challenged in their school, learning from failures and celebrating successes.
Our Cross-Curricular approach promotes creativity, independence, thinking deeply and reflection. We place great emphasis on learning outdoors and recognise the importance of learning in different environments.
Detailed, Curriculum plans can be found on Class pages. Our curriculum follows the 2014 National Curriculum and provides broad and balanced learning experiences, whilst fulfiling the duties of the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.
