Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
At St. Malachy's, children in Key Stage 2 are taught 2 languages.
The first, taught in Years 3 and 4, is Polish. We are fortunate to have a Polish Teaching Assistant who delivers the Polish lessons each week.
We have a number of Polish families who are part of our school family and we recognise the importance of ensuring that our children who have English as a first language should learn Polish in order to better understand, and be able to converse with, the Polish community in our local community.
Once the children move in to Year 5, they begin to learn Spanish. This continues through to the end of Year 6. The high schools we feed into all teach Spanish as part of their curriculum so a foundation in this language will support our children as they make the transition to Year 7.
