Music
Music supports our pupils in building a sense of community and they grow in confidence through shared performances and singing. It enables them to show their creativity through the compositions and sounds they make and helps us to build the cultural capital of our children.
Our Music Curriculum is Charanga which is a scheme developed by the Local Authority Music Department. This helps support teachers knowledge and understanding when delivering the Music curriculum.
Music is taught from EYFS to Year 6 and is built around a spiral progression to ensure skills are revisited and built upon each year.
Each class is taught 1 unit each half term and each unit is made up of 6 lesson (steps). Our children explore and work with both pitched and non pitched instruments.
Our Music curriculum is enriched by weekly Big Sing lessons held as a Key Stage or at times whole school. In Big Sing the children build their repertoire of hymns and songs through echo singing, singing as a group and learning about harmony as well as the different elements of music eg: duration.
Our children have opportunities to showcase the hymns and songs learned in Mass, liturgies and performances such as Nativities.
