Sports Premium

The government provides £150 million annually to support the development of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport, and is allocated directly to Headteachers to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport for all pupils.

Purpose of the Funding

All schools are required to use the Sports Premium to enhance their PE and sport provision, but have the flexibility to decide how best to do so. At St Malachy's, we recognise the vital role PE plays in promoting health, wellbeing, and personal development. We believe that a rich and varied PE curriculum, alongside inclusive extra-curricular opportunities, positively impacts pupils’ concentration, attitudes, and academic achievement.
