St Malachy's Catholic Primary School, A Voluntary Academy

Our mission at St Malachy's is to provide an enriching, high quality education, where we learn, love and grow with Christ at the centre, so that each individual feels nurtured and can achieve their full potential.

Special Educational Needs

At St Malachy's Catholic School, we try to identify any difficulties your child may be having at the earliest time possible. We screen for Dyslexia across KS2 and we dedicate ourselves to improving the learning environment of all children, to help them overcome their barriers to learning.

Ofsted Report September 2013
“Disabled pupils and those with special educational needs make good progress relative to their starting points because of the well-targeted support provided.”

“The leadership of the support that is provided for those pupils who are disabled, those whose circumstances make them more vulnerable and those with special educational needs, is good and helps any pupils who might be at risk of falling behind in their learning”.

At St Malachy's we support 12% of the Children who have additional needs ( National Average is: 14.4%).

Admissions Arrangement for Pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health & Care Plan

Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health & Care Plan that names the school must be admitted. This will reduce the number of places available to applicants. This is not an oversubscription criterion.

The admission of pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health & Care Plan is dealt with by a completely separate procedure. This procedure is set out in the 1996 Education Act. Details of this separate procedure are set out in the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.
